Highlights for December 2017: December is typically the biggest month for wine’s share of alcohol sales and that trend continued this past month, with wine up to 47% of total alcohol sales. Beer remains down 12% versus last December, while liquor was up less than 1%.

Within liquor, vodka had a notable drop, down 5% to 26% of liquor sales, with a worsening of its modest declines over the past 5 months. Tequila continues to spike, up double digits in share of liquor while rum, gin, and liqueurs all lose share. Champagne almost fully recovered from a relatively weak 2017 in its most crucial month, down 2% from the prior December. Within beer, cider and specialty both experienced double digit share gains as cider turned around a negative trend from the first half of the year.
