Highlights for August 2017: Wine continued to grow in August at the expense of beer. Compared to August 2016, wine’s share is up 7%, liquor’s share is up 3% while beer’s share is down 14%.
Tequila (up 12% in liquor share vs. last August) has been the biggest winner in liquor, with some positive share gain from specialty liquor like mezcal. Rosé closed out the summer with a 39% gain in wine share in August. Specialty beer has outpaced beer growth, up 30% in share driven predominantly by hard seltzer.
